Q: I am a resident citizen in Jeddah , and I performed 'Umrah with my wife
and an infant with us, and that was on the 27th of the blessed month of Ramadan last year. We encountered severe crowding that resulted in my wife being lost after we had completed the first three circuits, and the infant remained with me, and I continued searching for my wife, leaving the rest of the tawaf, as my wife is a stranger in Makkah and does not know the rituals. The situation developed, and I was in a dilemma between the infant, whose crying occupied me, and the loss of his mother, until I left the Haram and Makkah for Jeddah , and I left the infant with the neighbors in Jeddah , and I returned to Makkah to look for my wife. I called the police, and my wife was found at the police station at the end of the night. The time was tight for us, as the pre-dawn meal was approaching, and the infant was in Jeddah , and his mother was very worried about him, and I had been exhausted at that time. Finally, we went up to Jeddah and did not complete our 'Umrah. Do we have to make up the 'Umrah or pay an expiation, or does Islam permit us in such a problem? Knowing that this is not our first 'Umrah, as we had performed 'Umrahs before it. I inform your Eminence that we made a condition when entering the state of ihram: "If something prevents me, then my place of release is where I am prevented." Is this prevention considered a valid condition or not?
A: If the matter is as you mentioned regarding the condition made when entering ihram for 'Umrah, then there is nothing upon you, and we hope that what befell you is an expiation for your sins.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
