The questioner : I heard from the Friday imam that he said it is forbidden for a Muslim to pray the Friday prayer in his house, and I sometimes pray the Friday prayer and the other obligatory prayers in my house. Is my prayer valid or not? Please inform us of this, may Allah reward you.
The Shaykh : It is not permissible for a person to pray the Friday prayer in his house; rather, it is obligatory for him to attend the mosque with the congregation. If he is unable to do so, he prays the midday prayer in his house, because the Friday prayer requires attending the congregation in the mosque and requires the sermon, and a person cannot pray the Friday prayer alone in his house. As for the other prayers, it is also obligatory for him to attend the congregation in the mosques, unless he is excused due to inability or something similar, in which case he prays in his house.
