Books in the mosque that are removed for repair should be kept until the mosque is repaired

The first question of Fatwa No. ( 18644 )
Q1: An imam used to lead people in prayer in a prayer hall, then that hall was closed, so he took his books and carpets to his home with the intention of keeping them until it is reopened. If the period of closure becomes long, is it obligatory for him to hand over these books and other items related to this prayer hall—which are an endowment for Allah the Exalted—to another mosque, or are they specific to that prayer hall only, so he must keep them until it is reopened, if Allah wills, and then return them to it?
A1: If the aforementioned mosque is expected to be repaired and reopened for worshippers, then the furniture and books related to it should be kept until the mosque is repaired, and then placed in it; because they are endowments specific to it. However, if it is not expected to be repaired and prayer resumed in it, then these items specific to it are transferred to another mosque. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
