Fasting on the Day of Eid

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 7115 )
Q2: A discussion took place between me and some of my colleagues, and the reason was that I mentioned to them that in Syria we fast Ramadan, and on the day of Eid, meaning on the night before Eid al-Fitr, we eat the pre-dawn meal (suhur), and we do not break our fast until after performing the prayer. Is this permissible, and does completing this day count as completing the number, which is thirty days? And is this day considered fasting or not? I ask you to provide me with sufficient evidence from the words of Allah the Exalted and the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
A2: It is forbidden to fast on the two days of Eid, and it is not permissible to eat the pre-dawn meal (suhur) with the intention of fasting on the night of Eid al-Fitr in order to complete thirty days; because of what is in the two Sahihs from 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has forbidden people to fast on the day on which you break fasting (the fasts of Ramadan) and the day on which you eat the meat of your sacrifices (the first day of `Id ul Fitr and `Id ul-Adha).هذان يومان نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن صيامهما: يوم فطركم من صيامكم، واليوم الذي تأكلون فيه من نسككم
Sahih al-Bukhari 1990
.
And the Sunnah is to eat dates before going to the prayer ground on Eid al-Fitr; because of what al-Tirmidhi narrated from Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not go out on the day of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten, and he did not eat on the day of Eid al-Adha until he had prayed.كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لا يخرج يوم الفطر حتى يفطر ولا يطعم يوم النحر حتى يصلي
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
