Fasting on the Day of Eid
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 12961 )
Q: What is the ruling on a person who fasts on the day of the festival, even though he knows that it is the day of the festival?
A: It is not permissible to fast on the day of the festival; because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in authentic hadiths the prohibition of fasting on the two days of the festival of breaking the fast and the festival of sacrifice. The scholars of Islam have reached consensus on the prohibition of this. And upon the one who does this: repentance to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and not returning to it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his companions.
