The period of post-natal bleeding for a woman after a miscarriage
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 10653 )
Q2: One day in Ramadan, the fetus was lost following a miscarriage that occurred during the day, and she completed the fast for that day on which the fetus was lost. What is the ruling on her fast for that day? After breaking the fast, she went to the hospital and a procedure was performed to clean her uterus, and she did not fast that day. What is the ruling on that? And now, after leaving the hospital, should she wait until she is pure, or should she fast? If she is to wait, what is the specified duration for that? And does she only make up the fast, or does she also have to feed people?
A2: If the fetus she delivered had the form of a human being, such as a hand or a leg or the like, then she must observe the period of post-natal bleeding until she becomes pure or completes forty days, then she takes a full ritual bath, prays, and makes up the day on which she delivered and any subsequent days of obligatory fasting. She does not have to feed people if she makes up the fast before the next Ramadan. If she becomes pure before the forty days are complete,
she takes a full ritual bath, prays, and fasts because the impediment to doing so has been removed. If there was nothing of the human form in it, then her fast is valid, and the blood is considered blood of corruption; she prays and fasts with it and performs ablution for every prayer until her known custom returns. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
