Taking things from their owners without their knowledge . . . and now I do not know where they went so that I can inform them and assess the value of what I took from them, so what should I do now.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I took things from their owners without their knowledge, and I know that they deserve it, because they do not fear Allah. Now I do not know where they have become so that I can inform them, or assess the value of what I took from them, and I do not know a place for them, so what should I do? Please advise us, may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : If a person has the money of someone else and does not know the owner of this money, and is unable to find him or his heirs if he has died, then the way to be rid of it is to give it in charity to those who are its rightful recipients, and Allah the Mighty and Majestic knows who they are, and by doing so he is absolved of it. If it is a specific item, he assesses its value and gives it in charity. If it is dirhams or dinars, he gives the dirhams and dinars themselves in charity.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
