Fasting for one afflicted with liver disease

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 289 )
Q: He is afflicted with liver disease, and the doctor has ordered him to break his fast in order to take medication , and his liver’s ability to withstand it is weak. He mentions that he is able to walk to the mosque and to the hospital, and he asks whether it is permissible for him to break his fast given the situation described?
A: If the matter is as the questioner described, that he is afflicted with a disease in his liver and that the doctor has ordered him to break his fast, then if the doctor is trustworthy, honest, and experienced in his field, his order to leave off fasting is considered valid; because of what he knows of the state of the illness
and the extent to which the patient can or cannot withstand fasting. He must make up the days he broke his fast after he is able to do so. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
