Buying goods from a person who found them on the road
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18389 )
Q2: A young man came to me with girls' dresses, offering them for sale. I asked him: Where did you get them? He said: I was traveling on the Dammam route, and I saw a carton on the side of the road, with the dresses scattered out of it, so I gathered them and brought them to you. I bought them from him and sold them all for a profit, praise be to Allah.
A2: The money that the aforementioned person found on the road is lost property. He is obligated to announce it for a year until its owner comes and he hands it over to him. Since he sold it for its value, he hastened in doing so. He must hold onto the value until the year passes, along with the announcement. If its owner comes during that time, he is obligated to pay it to him. Otherwise, he may dispose of it after the year, and if its owner comes, he pays it to him.
