Selling the habhab before it ripens

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 20008 )
Q: I have agricultural land, and I planted habhab in it. A man came to me
wanting to buy this habhab, which has not yet ripened. I sold it to him for a sum of money. I am the one who planted it. If I were to lease the land, he would plant in it for a fee without me planting it; he would do the planting, and I would take the money for the land only, after which the land would return to me. Is there anything wrong with this? And if there is, what about the money I took? Is it lawful or forbidden? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you. May Allah preserve you.

A: It is not permissible to sell habhab until it ripens and becomes fit for eating; this is due to the prohibition of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of selling fruits before their ripeness begins, and habhab is among them. This is out of fear of spoilage and the consumption of wealth through falsehood. As for the land, it is permissible to lease it for agriculture or other purposes for a known duration and for a known rent. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
