Selling jewelry inscribed with the Name of Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 17659 ):
Q: It is prohibited for precious metals and gemstone shops to display, sell, or possess for the purpose of selling the following: jewelry inscribed with Qur'anic verses or images that contradict Islamic law. I ask your Eminence to inform me of the ruling on selling, buying, or
displaying: 1- jewelry inscribed with the Name of Allah or some of the names (Abd al-Rahman, Abd Allah, etc.)? 2- Jewelry in the shape of zodiac signs (such as Aries, Scorpio, Libra, etc.), whether printed or three-dimensional with a shadow, and the ruling on praying while wearing them? 3- Jewelry that contains only an image of a head without the rest of the body? 4- Some gold items that are added to some jewelry, which contain a side profile of a man's face, such as the George pound and others? 5- The Star of Israel or the cross, or anything related to the Jews or Christians in any of their rituals? 6- Gold rings designated for men, which the shop owners say they do not sell to Muslims? With your Eminence being informed that your fatwa supports us, the Ministry of Commerce inspectors, in removing the evils present in the gold markets, by the will of Allah, asking the Lord to make you among those whose life is prolonged and whose deeds are good, and to benefit the Muslim community with your knowledge.

A: First: It is not permissible to adorn metals and stones with Qur'anic verses and the Name of Allah; because this act diverts these verses from their great intended purpose, and there is a fear of exposing them and the Name of
Allah to desecration. Second: Making these amulets is a pre-Islamic age of ignorance (jahiliyyah) idea, and the Muslim must stay away from it and from everything that revives these pre-Islamic age of ignorance ideas, let alone what they contain of images of beings with souls. Therefore, it is not permissible to adorn jewelry with their shapes, nor is it permissible to possess them, nor to pray in them. Third and Fourth: The hadiths prohibiting images of beings with souls are general, so they include every image that is called an image of a being with a soul, and among that is the image of the head. Therefore, it is not permissible to adorn these jewelry items with them. Fifth: It is not permissible to make these jewelry items bearing the symbols and emblems of disbelief, such as the cross, the Star of Israel, and others, and it is not permissible to sell them or buy them. Sixth: It is not permissible to sell gold rings designated for men if they are wearing them, and the statement of shop owners that they do not sell them to Muslims does not justify their work, for they are in the lands of Islam, and it is incumbent upon whoever is in them not to deal except with what their purified Shari'ah permits, and this excuse is similar to the excuse of one who sells intoxicants and says: I do not sell them except to disbelievers; because the gold ring is forbidden for men.
