Advising the Perpetrator of a Sin

The first question of Fatwa No. ( 9908 )
Q1: I am a bearded man who performs the prayer at its appointed times and stays away from everything Allah has forbidden. My father disobeys Allah in performing the prayer; he believes he will be held accountable for it, yet he deliberately leaves it off. They object to my beard, and my father even says in mockery: "The beard is a recommended practice (sunnah); whoever lets it grow is rewarded for it, and whoever does not let it grow is not rewarded for it." I heard on the program (Nur 'ala al-Darb) that one who leaves off the prayer is not prayed over, is not buried in Muslim cemeteries, and his sacrificial animal is not eaten. Despite this mockery, I do not despair. They even prefer some of my brothers over others, and I am the eldest. My brother, who is several years younger than me, has been married. When I explain something to them about Islam, such as the prayer, he says to me: "Keep your explanation for yourself." What should I do with them?
Please advise us, may Allah reward you. A1: Advise your father and the brothers and friends around you. Read to them the fatwas sent to you regarding the ruling on letting the beard grow, the ruling on deliberately leaving off the prayer, and the ruling on preferring some children over others. Let this be done in the best manner. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
