Naming with Khalf Allah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 8940 )
Q: I hope you will kindly provide me with a scholarly ruling regarding the name: (Khalf Allah) , as some of my Muslim brothers, may Allah reward them with good, have expressed to me their opinion that this name (Khalf Allah) is not recommended from a legal standpoint; because Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has no (successor). Based on this, I turned to the competent authority for civil status to change my name from (Khalf Allah) to (Khalf), and they requested me
to bring a scholarly ruling stating that the name (Khalf Allah) is not legally recommended, so I ask your Eminence to kindly assist me so that I can change the name; to rest my conscience, and to please Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He.
A: If the intended meaning of the name: (Khalf Allah) is that he succeeds Allah and comes after Him as a successor to Him, or that he is a successor to Him, then naming with it is prohibited. But if the intended meaning of the naming: is that the child is a gift from Allah, and He, Glorified and Exalted is He, bestowed it upon His servant as a successor to a previous gift, then naming with it is permissible, and this is the apparent meaning, and on this basis there is no need to change the name. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
