Naming a boy after the Prophet’s slave

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 479 )
Q: It is included that he previously obtained Saudi citizenship under his name, which is the Prophet’s slave, and that he is not comfortable with this name and wishes to change it; unless naming it thus is permissible.
A: It appears that the meaning of "ghulam" (boy/slave) for those who use this name is: slave. So the meaning of "the Prophet’s slave" is: the slave of the Prophet. It is known that naming someone "Abd al-Rahman" (slave of the Merciful), "Abd Allah" (slave of Allah), and the like is a symbol of the slave’s attachment to his Lord, in the way of worship and submission. Accordingly, it is not permissible to name a Muslim "Abd al-Rasul" (slave of the Prophet) or the like; because of what is in that of symbolizing shirk (associating partners with Allah) and worshipping other than Him. The questioner must proceed to the competent authorities to change his name to one with which naming is valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
