Q3: There is a man who says: He was issued a fatwa and guided by someone who says: That
the 'aqiqah for a newborn male child must be two similar sheep, whether both are goats or both are sheep, what is your opinion?
A3: It is the Sunnah to slaughter two equivalent sheep for a male child, and one sheep for a female child; based on what is established from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:Sunan Abi Dawud 2834Sahih (Al-Albani) , narrated by Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi , and he graded it authentic, and from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): Mishkat al-Masabih 4155 , narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i, and he said: (with two rams, two rams) this is the best, and as for sufficiency, it is achieved by what suffices for the 'Id sacrifice. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
