Voluntary prayer after the Adhan for Fajr
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa number ( 4666 )
Q3: I see some people when the Adhan for Fajr is called and they come to the mosque, they perform voluntary prayer before the Iqamah. Also, when they intend to pray, they say: “I intend to pray such and such.” Is that permissible?
A3: After the Adhan for Fajr, once its time has entered, there is no voluntary prayer except the Sunnah of Fajr, and it suffices the one entering for the greeting of the mosque. Then, the intention to begin prayer is in the heart, and vocalizing it, whether aloud or secretly, is a religious innovation, such as saying: “I intend to pray such and such.” But if he prays the Sunnah in his house and then comes to the mosque before the Iqamah, he prays the greeting of the mosque. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
