Whispers in Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 3894 )
Q3: While I am performing the five daily prayers, in any of the obligatory ones,
when I say the takbir of ihram and begin reciting al-Fatihah, I am always distracted and my mind wanders outside the mosque until I finish the prayer. I know that this has been happening for about two years. A shaykh told us about this situation, saying: "The one whose mind wanders while performing prayer leaves the mosque just as he entered it." I hope you will inform me, guide me, and advise me regarding these questions. May Allah grant you a long life.
A: Your prayer is valid if you have performed the obligatory acts and duties of the prayer. Our advice to you is to defend yourself against Shaytan as much as you can and with all your strength, until the whispers leave you and you nullify the scheme of Shaytan. What will help you in this is seeking refuge in Allah and taking shelter in Him from Shaytan at the beginning of the recitation and in your heart constantly. Also, reflect on the meanings of the Qur'an in a way that guides you to the greatness of Allah, and engage in takbir, tahlil, tasbih, and tahmid. Remember that you are in the presence of Allah and that you are conversing with Him in your prayer. It is obligatory upon you to be respectful toward Him and to have your heart present in your conversation and supplication with Him. Hope that Allah will ward off the distractions from you and protect you from the scheme of Shaytan. May Allah grant you success in turning to Him and turning away from Shaytan. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
