Zakah on food purchased for consumption

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 820 )
Q1: I had one thousand riyals and I bought food with them, intending to use this purchase for eating, not for trade. A lunar year or two years passed over this food, and it remained with me because I did not need it. Is zakah due on it or not?
A: If the matter is as you described, that you bought the food for eating and not for trade, but it happened that you did not need it, so it remained with you for the purpose of eating it in the future, then there is no zakah due on it. However, if you bought it for trade from the start, or if you bought it while you did not need it for eating, but you intended
to get rid of the obligation of zakah on the money if it remained as cash, then zakah becomes obligatory on its value when a lunar year passes over it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
