The second question of fatwa number ( 1774 )
Q2: What is the minimum nisab for zakah in grains, rice, and the like, and how much must be extracted from them for the recipient of zakah, calculated by measure and weight?
A2: The nisab of zakah in grains, such as wheat, barley, corn, rice, and the like—those in which zakah is obligatory—is five wasqs. A wasq is sixty sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg), and a sa' is four mudd (a quarter of a sa') by the mudd of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has been defined by the scholars as four hundred and eighty mithqals, which is four full handfuls with two moderate hands. What must be paid out of them is one-tenth for that which is watered by rain, floods, or spring water without any devices to raise it or direct it to the crops, and half of one-tenth for that which is watered by devices such as machines, camels, or others. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
