Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the General President from the Director of King Fahd Hospital in al-Hufuf, via the Dawah and Guidance Center in al-Ahsa, and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars with number (4627) and date 22 \ 6 \ 1409 AH. The questioner asked a question, the text of which is: We request your Excellency to kindly provide a legal ruling regarding the trusts of some patients that are in the hospital, knowing that some of them are deceased and their names and identities are unknown, and for some of the deceased, their addresses were contacted, but some refused to attend due to the insignificance of the trust, and some do not have a correct address. Knowing that these trusts vary between: small amounts of money, some pieces of jewelry, small devices,
watches, some personal identification cards, and approximately four years or more have passed for many of them; therefore, we request your Excellency to kindly provide a ruling on the legal status of disposing of these trusts, the ways of spending them, and the regulatory steps that must be followed. Knowing that we have a department of medical social services, one of whose responsibilities is to care for the social affairs of patients, and to provide financial assistance from the patients' fund, which is funded by people of good and donors, and is spent on children of unknown parents by purchasing clothes, and also providing financial assistance to kidney patients who need such assistance due to their financial need. This, and please accept my greetings.

A: If the matter is as mentioned in the question, then the items referred to are handed over to the medical social services department to be spent on what it was established for, namely assisting children of unknown parents, purchasing clothes, or providing financial assistance to needy kidney patients, etc.
