Is there any harm in the phrase "I trust you not to do such and such"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is there any harm in the phrase "I trust you to do such and such" or "I trust you not to do such and such"?

The Shaykh : This resembles an oath, such as "I trust you to do such and such" or "I trust you not to do such and such." However, if "trust" is used in the sense of a confidential instruction, for example, if he tells him a secret and says, "I trust you, do not tell anyone," then there is no harm in it. Or if he instructs him to convey a message to someone, saying, "I trust you to convey to him from me such and such," then this is not an oath, so there is no harm in it. As for the first form, "I trust you to do such and such" or similar expressions that do not convey the meaning of a confidential instruction, it is equivalent to swearing an oath by trust, and swearing an oath by other than Allah the Exalted is a type of associating partners with Allah.
