Leaving the making up of fasts for the days of menstruation out of ignorance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 5774 )
Q2: It isthere are some women who used to break their fast in Ramadan for a legitimate religious excuse, which is menstruation, and they did not make up those days they had broken their fast, and that was because they did not know that making up the fast is obligatory, and others because of negligence resulting from that. Among them is a woman who did not know that making up the fast is obligatory because schools and awareness were not widespread in the past. Since she is now over forty-five years old and her menstruation has stopped for a period of no less than four years, she is now seeking the answer. Since she insisted that I ask about this issue for her, I hope to find the answer and what she should do, especially since she has passed the age of forty-five.
A2: If the situation is as described, she must repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for her negligence and for not asking the scholars. She must fast days equal to the number of her menstrual days in the months of Ramadan in the years that have passed since she reached puberty. If she does not know the exact number, she should fast until she is convinced that she has made up the days on which she menstruated in the past Ramadans. She must also feed a poor person for each day with half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of the local staple food, such as dates or otherwise, to be distributed to some of the poor if she is able to do so. If she is poor and cannot afford the expense, it is dropped from her.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
