Fasting on the last day of Sha'ban
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 8035 )
Q1: What is the ruling on one who fasted on the last day of Sha'ban and the scholars of the country did not agree on the confirmation of the sighting for the month of Ramadan, but it was confirmed for them afterwards, as happened in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this year, 1404 AH, and some people fasted it because they saw the crescent of Ramadan, or because they trusted the one who saw it, and the time of their fasting was correct, as was confirmed afterwards, and that they fasted for its sighting and broke their fast for its sighting, and some of the shaykhs issued a fatwa that the fasting of one who did not see the crescent is invalid because they opposed the congregation, even if they were in error, and that the scholars of every country are the only ones responsible for confirmation, and that there is no consideration for one who fasted based on the fatwa of the sighting of scholars from a country other than the one in which he resides, and that he must make up the fast.
A1: One who saw the crescent of Ramadan on the night of the thirtieth of Sha'ban, or was informed by a trustworthy person that he saw it, and fasted the next day based on this sighting, his fast is sufficient
for him and he owes no make-up fast. As for one who fasted without seeing it himself or being informed by a trustworthy person that he saw it, and it was later found to be from Ramadan, that fast is not sufficient for him, and he must make it up and repent from fasting on the day of doubt; because the authentic hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicate the prohibition of fasting on the day of doubt. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
