Question:
The questioner, the listener Abu Khalid from Makkah al-Mukarramah, asks and says: Is it permissible to fast the last day of the month of Sha'ban?
Answer:
If you have a habit of fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, and the last day happens to be a Monday or a Thursday, you fast it, based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 1082a.
The one who has a habit of fasting one day and breaking the fast the next, or fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, and the day of fasting happens to be the thirtieth of Sha'ban, he fasts it; because he fasts it as his custom. But if he volunteers it for the sake of Ramadan, no. This is prohibited.
