Fatwa No. ( 4145 )
Q: Some of the preachers in the mosques in this region delivered a sermon that included the hadith of Salman in which he mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed them on the last day of Sha'ban... and so on. Some of the brothers objected to him publicly in front of the audience, saying that the hadith of Salman is among the fabrications, as is the statement: "Whoever feeds a fasting person, Allah will give him a drink from my pool such that he will not be thirsty thereafter until he enters Paradise," and the statement: "Whoever eases the burden of his slave, Allah will forgive him and free him from the Fire." Our brother said: These words are a lie against the Messenger, and whoever lies against the Messenger should take his place in the Fire... and so on. I hope for your ruling on the correctness of his statement or otherwise, may Allah preserve you.
Volume 1: The hadith of Salman narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah in his Sahih, where he said: "Chapter on the virtues of the month of Ramadan, if the report is authentic." Then he said: "Narrated to us by 'Ali ibn Hujayr al-Sa'di , who narrated to us from Yusuf ibn Ziyad , who narrated to us from Hammad ibn Yahya , from 'Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jad'an , from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib , from Salman , who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us on the last day of Sha'ban and said: "O people, a great month has come upon you, a blessed month, a month in which there is a night better than a thousand months. Allah has made fasting in it obligatory and standing in prayer during its night voluntary. Whoever draws near to Allah in it with any good deed is like one who has fulfilled an obligation in other times, and whoever fulfills an obligation in it is like one who has fulfilled seventy obligations in other times. It is the month of patience, and the reward for patience is Paradise. It is the month of generosity, and the provision of the believer increases in it. Whoever feeds a fasting person in it will have his sins forgiven, his neck freed from the Fire, and he will have a reward like that of the fasting person, without anything being deducted from the fasting person's reward. They said: Not all of us find what to feed a fasting person. He said: Allah will give this reward to whoever feeds a fasting person with a date, a drink of water, or a cup of milk. It is a month whose beginning is mercy, its middle is forgiveness, and its end is freedom from the Fire. Whoever eases the burden of his slave, Allah will forgive him and free him from the Fire. So take advantage of four characteristics in it: two by which you please your Lord, and two without which you cannot do without. As for the two by which you please your Lord, they are the testimony that there is no god but Allah and seeking His forgiveness. As for the two without which you cannot do without, they are asking Allah for Paradise and seeking refuge in Him from the Fire. Whoever feeds a fasting person in it, Allah will give him a drink from my pool such that he will not be thirsty until he enters Paradise."
Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 5:8

In its chain is Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jad'an , who is weak due to his poor memory, and in its chain is also Yusuf ibn Ziyad al-Basri , who is a denouncer of hadith, and in it is also Hammam ibn Yahya ibn Dinar al-'Uwadi , about whom Ibn Hajar said in al-Taqrib: "A trustworthy narrator who sometimes errs." Based on this, the hadith with this chain is not fabricated, but it is weak. Nevertheless, the virtues of the month of Ramadan are numerous and established in authentic hadiths. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
