Q1: We are the ones responsible for the private university Dar al-'Ulum Mu'in al-Islam and the school Makhan al-'Ulum in the city of: Chittagong, Bangladesh . Your Eminence is aware of both institutions through your letter number (329 / G Kh) dated 26 / 1 / 1407 AH. We ask Your Eminence to issue a ruling for us, as the university and the school house many students, and we provide them with free housing, food, medical care, and books. Since this requires heavy expenses, is it permissible for us to take from the zakah to spend on the students' sustenance? Because they have no shelter to take refuge in except there, and no entity to provide for them except from there. We hope that Your Eminence will respond to this letter urgently, given our pressing need for this fatwa at the present time. May Allah reward you and grant you reward.
