The twelfth question of Fatwa number ( 5005 )
Q12: Is it permissible to recite Surat al-Fatihah and Surat al-Ikhlas in the place or residence of the deceased after three days, or is it a bad religious innovation?
A12: We do not know of any evidence, neither from the Book nor from the Sunnah, that indicates the prescription of reciting Surat al-Fatihah and Surat al-Ikhlas or anything else in the place or residence of the deceased after three days. We also do not know that any of the Companions, the Tabi'un, or the generation after the Tabi'un was reported to have done so. The original ruling is to prohibit it; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718b , and whoever claims its prescription must provide the evidence.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
