The honorable Shaykh, my husband forces me to have intercourse during menstruation, and when I explain to him the prohibition of that in the Qur'an, he scolds me severely and says

The questioner : A questioner says: The honorable Shaykh, my husband forces me to have intercourse during menstruation, and when I explain to him the prohibition of that in the Qur'an, he scolds me severely and says: "By refusing..."

The Shaykh : "By refusing, what do you mean?"

The Shaykh : "By refusing, you are driving me..."

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : "By refusing, by refusing you are driving me to sin and not relieving me. What is your guidance, O honorable Shaykh, for this man and those like him, and those who perhaps force their wives to let them have anal intercourse?"

The Shaykh : Yes, I say: Intercourse with a woman during menstruation is forbidden because Allah the Exalted said: If the husband wants pleasure, let him take pleasure without intercourse; he may have intercourse between her thighs, for example, or satisfy his desire by any means, but he must not have intercourse in the vagina. As for anal intercourse, it is even more abominable. If Allah the Exalted forbade intercourse during menstruation in the place of intercourse, which is the vagina, how does a person bring himself close to have intercourse in the place of filth, which is excrement, and refuge is sought in Allah from that? But this is a regression. And the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Whoever is known for this, meaning: having anal intercourse with a woman, it is obligatory to separate them" against his will; they are to be separated, because this is a violation of the sanctities of Allah and he has not thanked Allah for His blessing upon him. And the matter, praise be to Allah, is broad; a person can take pleasure in what is between the thighs and satisfy his desire thereby. As for the woman, it is obligatory for her to refrain if he asks to have intercourse with her during menstruation or via the anus.
