The Tasbih with the Misbaha
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The seventh question of Fatwa number ( 6460 )
Q7: Which is better, tasbih after prayer with the misbaha or with the hand, and what was the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?
A7: Tasbih with the hand is better, and it is not established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he took for himself a misbaha to glorify Allah with, as far as we know, and all good lies in following him. The Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about it and answered with the following text: “As for tasbih with what is made of a string of beads or the like, some people disliked it and some did not dislike it. If you are sincere in your intention, it is good and not disliked. As for taking it without need, or displaying it to people, such as hanging it around the neck or making it like a bracelet on the hand or the like—this is either showing off to people, or a place of showing off and imitating those who show off without need. The first is forbidden, and the least of the states of the second is that it is disliked. For showing off to people in specific acts of worship, such as prayer, fasting, dhikr, and reciting the Qur'an, is among the greatest of sins. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ma'un 107:4-7] , and Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nisa 4:142] .
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.

(4) So woe to those who pray (5) [But] who are heedless of their prayer - (6) Those who make show [of their deeds] (7) And withhold [simple] assistance.
Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little,
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
