What is the ruling on the misbaha?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A questioner says: The reports from you, may Allah preserve you, differ regarding the misbaha. Is the dhikr with it a religious innovation?

The Shaykh : Yes, or it is a recommended practice. I do not recall mentioning anything about it except one opinion, which is that the dhikr with it is permissible. But what is better? With the fingers. Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Tie them with your fingers, for they are the ones that will be questioned. اعقدن بالأنامل فإنهن مستنطقات
And because the misbaha may contain some element of showing off in worship, especially if a person wears a misbaha with a thousand beads around his neck, as if he is saying to people: Look at me, for I recite the dhikr a thousand times. Also, the common practice of those who recite dhikr with a misbaha is that you see a misbaha with them, but they have nothing else. The common case is that he says: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar. That is, he recites the dhikr and looks around. Is this a person whose heart is present? No, his heart is not present. Therefore, take this and do not recite dhikr with it. Yes.
