Q 1: Is using the prayer beads for other than glorification in prayer forbidden or not? I have heard that it is an innovation, so please inform us?
Vol. 1: Using the misbaha (prayer beads) for counting tasbih or dhikr is permissible; however, using the fingers is better than that. As for believing that there is a virtue in using the misbaha, this is a bid'ah (religious innovation) with no basis, and it is from the practice of the Sufis . As for using the misbaha for other than tasbih, but for the purpose of amusement, there is no harm in it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
