Boarding the plane from Riyadh to Jeddah with the intention of 'Umrah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I boarded the plane from Riyadh to Jeddah with the intention of 'Umrah, then the pilot announced that in twenty-five minutes we would pass over the miqat. However, I was unaware of the time of passing over the miqat by four or five minutes, and we completed the rituals of 'Umrah. What is the ruling, O honorable Shaykh?

The Shaykh : The ruling is that, according to what the scholars have stated, it is obligatory for him—indeed, it is obligatory for this questioner—to slaughter a sheep in Makkah and distribute it to the poor. If he does not find one, Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. But I advise the brothers: when the pilot announces that there are twenty-five minutes or ten minutes left, they should enter the state of ihram. Because some people sleep after this announcement and do not realize it until they are close to Jeddah Airport. And if you enter ihram five minutes, ten minutes, an hour, or two hours before the miqat, there is nothing wrong with you. The danger is delaying the ihram until you pass the miqat. How far is five minutes for a plane? What is the distance? It is a long distance. So I say to the brotherThe questioner : Slaughter a fidyah in Makkah and distribute it to the poor for each one of you who did not enter ihram until after the miqat. But in the future, be careful: when the pilot of the plane announces it, the matter is broad; enter ihram. So even if you sleep after that, it will not harm you. Yes.
