The third question of Fatwa No. ( 4276 )
Q3: Is it permissible for us to say, while speaking about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Our master Muhammad," in contexts other than what is narrated from him, such as the Ibrahimic salutation or otherwise?
A3: The salutation upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the tashahhud does not include the word "our master"—that is, (O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad... etc.)—as far as we know. Likewise, the wording of the adhan and iqamah does not include "our master"; this is because it is not found in the authentic hadiths in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his Companions how to send blessings upon him and how to perform the adhan and iqamah. Furthermore, acts of worship are based on divine legislation, so nothing is added to them that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has not legislated. However, there is no harm in using it in other contexts; this is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3615Hasan (Darussalam) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
