The supplication after the final tashahhud

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa number ( 1272 )
Q2: What is the narrated supplication with which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate between the final tashahhud and the taslim?
A2: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge with Allah in his prayer after the tashahhud from four things, and he ordered his Companions to seek refuge from four things when they finished the final tashahhud. So, from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he used to say after the tashahhud:
O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the punishment in Hell, and I seek refuge in Thee from the punishment in the grave, and I seek refuge in Thee from the trial of antichrist, and I seek refuge in Thee from the trial of life and death.
Sunan Abi Dawud 984Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
Narrated by Abu Dawud, and from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate in prayer:
Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min `adhabi l-qabr, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-masihi d-dajjal, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-mahya wa fitnati l-mamat. Allahumma inni a`udhu bika mina l-ma'thami wa l-maghram.
Sahih al-Bukhari 832, 833
Narrated by Ahmad and al-Bukhari and Muslim and Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i and al-Tirmidhi, and from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When anyone of you finishes the last Tashah-hud, let him seek refuge with Allah from four things: From the torment of Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trials of life and death, and from the Fitnah (tribulation) of Masihud-Dajjal.
Sunan Ibn Majah 909Sahih (Darussalam)
Narrated by Ahmad and Muslim and Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught Abu Bakr al-Siddiq a supplication to recite in his prayer other than what was mentioned before. So, from him (may Allah be pleased with him), he said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Teach me a du'a` that I may say in my prayer. He said: `Say: O Allah. I have wronged myself greatly and no one forgives sins except You, so grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me, for You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.`علمني دعاء أدعو به في صلاتي، قال: قل: اللهم إني ظلمت نفسي ظلمًا كثيرًا ولا يغفر الذنوب إلا أنت، فاغفر لي مغفرة من عندك وارحمني إنك أنت الغفور الرحيم
Musnad Ahmad 28Sahih (Darussalam)
Narrated by Ahmad and al-Bukhari and Muslim, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Never leave the recitation of this supplication after every prayer: 'O Allah, help me to remember You, thank You, and worship You perfectly.'
Bulugh al-Maram 2:219
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was generous with his Ummah regarding supplication after the final tashahhud. So, from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:
When we sat with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in prayer, we used to say: Peace be upon Allah from His servants, peace be upon so-and-so and so-and-so. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not say: Peace be upon Allah, for Allah is Peace. But when one of you sits, let him say: The testimonies, the prayers, and the good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. For when you say that, it will reach every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth, or from the heavens and the earth. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger. Then let one of you choose whatever supplication he likes and supplicate with it.
Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim and Abu Dawud and others with similar wording in meaning. Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it clear by his saying and his teaching of his Companions that the door of supplication is wide, except that it is better for the one praying to supplicate in his prayer with what is authentic in the reports from him (peace and blessings be upon him) or from any of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them).
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
