Reciting Prophetic Hadiths in Prayer Instead of the Qur'an

Fatwa No. ( 9391 )
Q: Why do we not pray with Prophetic Hadiths like the Noble Qur'an, knowing that both are from the same source, which is Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He? As for the difference between them, it is known?
A: Prayer is a worship based on divine prescription, and opinion is not to be used in it; rather, one refers to Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in it. Although Prophetic Hadiths are revelation from Allah, they are not the Qur'an. Allah, the Exalted, has legislated for us through His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), in words and deeds, that we recite the Qur'an, not the Prophetic Hadiths. He has not legislated for His servants to recite them in prayer in place of al-Fatihah or the surah after it. There is nothing in the Book or the Sunnah indicating that everything that is revelation from Allah is to be recited in prayer; otherwise, the Prophetic Hadiths would have been recited in it. The principle in this matter is divine prescription, not independent legal reasoning, analogical reasoning, or opinion.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
