Reciting al-Fatihah in the funeral prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The eighth question of Fatwa No. ( 6744 )
Q8: Is it obligatory to recite al-Fatihah in the funeral prayer after the first takbir, or is it sufficient to send blessings upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and make du'a for the deceased?
A8: It is obligatory to recite al-Fatihah in the funeral prayer after the first takbir, the takbir of ihram; due to the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
There is no Salat for the one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab.لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بفاتحة الكتاب
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam)
, and due to the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for it is established that he used to recite it after the first takbir. It is obligatory to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after the second takbir, and it is obligatory to make du'a for the deceased and others after the third takbir, then the taslim after the fourth. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
