The seventh question of Fatwa No. ( 4678 )
Q7: In your opinion, what are the sound books that can be relied upon in matters of our religion, and which are within reach? May Allah reward you with good.
A7:The principle that a scholar must rely upon in knowing his religion is: the evidence from the Book and the Sunnah established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the consensus of the Muslim community, and the other evidence that refers back to them, such as analogical reasoning and maintaining the original ruling, unless something is established that transfers the ruling from it. As for the student who is not able to examine the evidence and derive rulings from it, he must refer to the books of trusted scholars so that he may benefit from the knowledge contained in them, such as the tafsirof Ibn Jarir al-Tabari,and the tafsirof Ibn Kathir, and the tafsirof al-Qurtubi,and the exegesisof Ibn al-Arabion the verses of rulings, and such as the book Fath al-Bari, which is an explanation of Sahihal-Bukhari,and the explanationof al-Nawawiof SahihMuslim, and 'Aridhatal-Ahmadhicommentary on the Sunanof al-Tirmidhi,and such as Fath al-Qadir in the jurisprudenceof the Hanafis,al-Majmu'by al-Nawawi,Sharh al-Muhadhdhabby al-Shirazion the jurisprudence of the Shafi'is, and al-Kafiby Ibn 'Abd al-Barr,and al-MuqaddimatIbn Rushd- the grandfather - and *Bidayat al-Mujtahid*Ibn Rushd- the grandson -
in the jurisprudence of the Malikis, al-Mughni of Ibn Qudamah, and his al-Kafi as well, and 'Umdat al-Fiqh of his as well in the jurisprudence of the Hanbalis, Zad al-Ma'ad of Ibn al-Qayyim, and such as Sharh al-Tahawiyyah of Ibn Abi al-'Izz, and al-'Aqidah al-Wasitiyyah of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, Mukhtasar al-Sawa'iq al-Mursalah of Ibn al-Qayyim, and Fath al-Majid, an explanation of Kitab al-Tawhid, by Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hasan in the science of tawhid (the oneness of Allah). Also, seek guidance from the trusted scholars you have regarding what you read, and ask them about what is difficult for you to understand. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
