Choosing a Husband
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 13656 )
Q: I am a woman who wears the niqab, and two men have proposed to me. The first is bearded, and he is in the second year of the commercial secondary school, while I am studying for a commercial diploma. However, he is three years older than me, and he has no sisters except for one sister who is going to marry in a distant country. The second brother is an agricultural engineer, has an apartment to himself, and agrees with all my religious requests, such as not shaking hands and not mixing with the opposite sex, and so on. He is very, very committed, and of high moral character, but he is not bearded. My family at home has left the decision to me, and I am confused about this choice. So I ask you for the Islamic opinion on this situation with convincing arguments, knowing that this brother’s financial situation is comfortable.
A: One should choose a husband who is righteous in his religion, the most God-fearing of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) in all his affairs, the best in character, and the most complete in intellect.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
