The Role of the Scholar in Preventing Disagreement Among Muslims

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first and second questions of Fatwa No. ( 5293 )
Q1, 2: What is the role of the Muslim scholar and the bodies of scholars in Islamic countries regarding the division and disagreement that has befallen the Muslims? Why do some scholars from various parts of the Islamic world not attempt to restore unity
of the ranks as an independent body free from all Islamic disagreements or malicious policies? Why does Islamic media, especially the radio stations represented in the Union of Islamic Broadcasting, not focus on providing an atmosphere that helps restore the unified Islamic front, and broadcasting many programs about the union in all the participating radio stations for this purpose?

Vol. 1, 2: The scholars are the heirs of the prophets, so it is incumbent upon the scholars of the Muslims to look into the conditions of the Muslims to know what knowledge they need, so that they may educate them in light of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and to know what division and disagreement exist among them, so that they may reconcile their differences, strive to unify their ranks, gather their word upon the truth, and direct them in a good direction that brings them security, honor, and victory, liberates their lands and frees them from the hands of their enemies, and purifies their homes from those who plot against them and against Islam. By doing so, they will be worthy of Allah supporting them with a host from Him, making the word of those who disbelieve the lower one, and the word of Allah the upper one. They should also know what weakness and attachment to the earth exist among them, while taking the means of happiness in their religion and worldly affairs, so that they may rouse them from their slumber and awaken them from their deep sleep. By doing so, Allah the Exalted will make them successors on the earth, just as He achieved this for their predecessors, so they dominated life, held the reins of it, reformed its affairs, and became the best
nation brought forth for mankind, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and judging the servants of Allah by the law of Allah, without any opposition or obstruction from their opponents; rather, their word is heard, their command is effective, and their opinion is sound, and so on, of what is obligatory upon scholars toward their nations. If they do this in light of the Book of Allah the Exalted and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), without sectarian bias, partisan loyalty, pre-Islamic tribalism, or following of desires, their responsibility is cleared, and good and happiness are hoped for them and their nations in their religion and worldly affairs. The same applies to the men of Islamic media. If these and those refuse but to cling to the earth and be lazy in performing the duty, following desires and inclining to ease and comfort, the word of punishment becomes binding upon them and their nations, and they increase in humiliation and degradation, a recompense for what they used to earn. And true in them is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And there followed them successors who inherited the Scripture [while] taking the commodities of this lower life and saying, "It will be forgiven for us." And if an offer like it comes to them, they will [again] take it. Was not the covenant of the Scripture taken from them that they would not say about Allah except the truth, and they studied what was in it? And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allah, so will you not use reason?
[Al-A'raf 7:169]
We ask Allah to guide the scholars of the Muslims to perform their duty and to benefit the Muslims through them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
