The first question of Fatwa number ( 8424 )
Q1: One day in the blessed month of Ramadan—I do not know exactly when—I saw the residents of this village, who are my tribe, gathering in the mosque for a worldly matter concerning lands. I sat in this gathering and saw some men cursing one another, insulting each other and their fathers, and they made noises that do not please Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). What is your opinion on this matter, knowing that I told them to refrain from causing disturbance in the mosque, as this is among the etiquettes of mosques?
A1: Mosques were built for the remembrance of Allah the Exalted, so it is not permissible to use them for worldly affairs. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nur 24:36] Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in his tafsir, regarding Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in this noble verse, that Allah the Exalted forbade idle talk in them. Qatadah said: These are the mosques. Allah the Exalted commanded their building, their maintenance, their elevation, and their purification. It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the mosques: .
You did well in disapproving of them. It is not permissible to have cursing and insulting in them, nor any other of the forbidden words and actions. As for a little permissible speech, there is no harm in it when there is a need related to worldly affairs. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
