The second question of Fatwa No. ( 5086 ):
Q2: Is it valid or permissible for an individual to speak about what Allah has opened up to him regarding the contemplation of the verses, as some scholars call it [the subtleties of exegesis] ,
even though this is not based on a report stopping at a Companion or a report traced to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?
A2: It is permissible for a scholar who understands the meanings, who has knowledge of the Arabic language and the general principles of the Shari'ah, to interpret the Qur'an, assisting himself in doing so by interpreting some of it with some of it, and by the interpretation of the authentic Sunnah and the recognized Salaf of the Ummah. However, interpreting it by mere opinion and desire is forbidden; for it is narrated by Ibn Jarir and others that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2951Da'if (Darussalam) . And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
