Explanation of the phrase "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa number ( 6149 ):
Q3: I want an explanation of the phrase "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
A3 : The testimony that "there is no god but Allah" and that "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" is the first pillar of the pillars of Islam. The meaning of "there is no god but Allah" is: there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. It consists of negation and affirmation. "There is no god" negates all worship of anyone other than Allah, and "but Allah" affirms all worship for Allah alone, with no partner. I advise you to review the book *Fath al-Majid Sharh Kitab al-Tawhid* by the shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hasan; because he elaborated on the matter in the chapter on explaining tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and the testimony that there is no god but Allah. As for the phrase "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah," its meaning is: acknowledging the message of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), believing in it, and submitting to it in speech, action, and belief, and avoiding all that contradicts it in words, deeds, intentions, and omissions. In other words, its meaning is:
obeying him in what he commanded, believing him in what he reported, avoiding what he forbade and warned against, and not worshipping Allah except with what He has prescribed. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
