The questioner : He says: Your Eminence, the Shaykh, we read in the daily almanacs that certain zodiac signs have attributes attributed to them; this attached document states: Attributes of the Scorpio sign, among what is mentioned, it is abundant, and its rain rarely fails, but it is blameworthy, because it causes the growth of the *nashrah*, which is a plant that if the camels see it...

The Shaykh : What does it grow?

The questioner : The *nashrah*.

The Shaykh : The *nashrah*?

The questioner : The *nashrah* or *nashr*, which is a plant that if the camels see it, they become sick.

The Shaykh : In any case, reporting what happens in the zodiac signs or in the stars, if it is merely a report, such as saying: "It is customary that in such-and-such a star or such-and-such a sign, such-and-such occurs," there is nothing wrong with it, because it is a report. However, if one believes that the zodiac signs have an effect on events, this is forbidden (haram), and it is a type of associating partners with Allah (shirk). Likewise, if one believes that the stars, which are not the zodiac signs, have an effect on events, this is a type of associating partners with Allah (shirk) that is not permissible and is not true. This is the rule: if one reports what is customary, such as saying: "When such-and-such a sign enters, the rain usually increases," there is nothing wrong with it; this is a reality. But if one believes that the sign has an effect, this is a type of associating partners with Allah (shirk). In Sahih, from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:
God’s messenger led us in the morning prayer at al-Hudaibiya after rain which had fallen during the night, and when he finished he turned to the people and said, “Do you know what your Lord has said?” On their replying that God and His messsenger knew best he told them that He had said, “This morning there were among my servants one who believes in me and one who disbelieves. The one who said, ‘We have been given rain by God’s grace and mercy' is the one who believes in me and disbelieves in the star, but the one who said, ‘We have been given rain by such and such a rainy star’ is the one who disbelieves in me and believes in the star.”
