The second question of Fatwa No. ( 3247 ):
Q2: We know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the image-makers. Who are the image-makers? Are they those who make statues, or those who take photographs, i.e., flat images? And is photographing natural landscapes forbidden?
A2: Depicting living beings is forbidden, whether the depiction is three-dimensional, photographic, or drawn by hand or machine; due to the generality of the evidence for the prohibition of image-making, among which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
the most grievously tormented people on the Day of Resurrection would be the painters of picturesأشد الناس عذابًا يوم القيامة المصورون
Sahih Muslim 2109a
It is agreed upon that it is authentic, and what al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih from Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him)
from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he:
receiving or giving Riba, (usury), and cursed the picture-makers.لعن آكل الربا وموكله ولعن المصور
Sahih al-Bukhari 2086
. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
