The questioner : Your Eminence. If one doubts about a state of ritual impurity during prayer and nothing dominates his mind, what is the ruling?
The Shaykh : Yes. Anyone who doubts about something that exists should not pay attention to this doubt. This is a general rule. "Anyone who doubts that something that exists has ceased, the original state is its continuation". For example: a person doubts about a state of ritual impurity, did he become impure? We say: the original state is the continuation of the ablution and that he did not become impure. This is common among two groups of people: the first group is a group afflicted with obsessive thoughts, illusions, and delusions. Their remedy is to seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and not to pay attention to this obsession. Another group with them has wind and gases in their stomachs. They feel movement and fear that a state of ritual impurity has occurred. So their remedy, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 361. My advice to everyone is to adhere to these two paths: if it is due to obsessive thoughts, he must seek refuge in Allah and turn away from this matter and not pay attention to it. If it is due to a sensed thing, a rumbling in the stomach or gases, he should base his action on what? On certainty that he did not become impure until he hears a sound or finds wind.
