Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 5682 ):
Q5: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Desire is forgiveness for its owner as long as he does not act upon it or speak of itالهوى مغفرة لصاحبه ما لم يعمل به أو يتكلم
narrated by Abu Nu'aym , and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Hold fast to La ilaha illa Allah (there is no god but Allah) and seeking forgiveness, and increase in them, for Iblis said: I destroyed the people with sins, and they destroyed me with La ilaha illa Allah and seeking forgiveness. So when I saw that, I destroyed them with desires, and they think that they are guidedعليكم بلا إله إلاَّ الله والاستغفار، فأكثروا منهما فإن إبليس قال: أهلكت الناس بالذنوب وأهلكوني بلا إله إلاَّ الله والاستغفار، فلما رأيت ذلك أهلكتهم بالأهواء وهم يحسبون أنهم مهتدون
narrated by Abu Ya'la from Abu Bakr , what is the meaning of what is similar in the two hadiths: desire is forgiveness, he destroyed them with desires?

J5:The first hadith:We do not know its authenticity, and the authentic, well-known hadith in this chapter is what was narrated byal-Bukhariand Muslim(may Allah have mercy on both of them) in the two Sahihs, fromAbu Hurayrah(may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
Allah, the Most High, has forgiven my followers what they contemplate on within themselves (i.e. evil thoughts) as long as they do not act upon or speak about them.إن الله تجاوز عن أمتي ما حدثت به أنفسها ما لم تعمل أو تتكلم
Bulugh al-Maram 8:133
، As for the second hadith:Al-Suyuti attributed itAl-Suyutiin [al-Jami' al-Saghir] to Abu Ya'la, and he marked it with the symbol for weakness, and what is meant by "desires" is: religious innovations. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
