Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((And those who, when they spend, neither waste nor are stingy, but hold a just middle between these)).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Allah the Exalted said:
And [they are] those who, when they spend
[Al-Furqan 25:67]
How many characteristics have we taken? May Allah reward you. Four.
And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate
[Al-Furqan 25:67]
. They are also, in addition to spending the night in prostration and standing for Allah. And those who establish the late-night prayer will establish the obligatory prayers all the more so. They are also spenders. But they spend in a moderate way
Neither waste
This is one.
Nor are stingy
. Excess: increasing. And stinginess: decreasing. Meaning: they do not excess by increasing, nor do they be stingy by falling short. So here are two extremes. Here are two extremes in spending: the first is excess. And the second is stinginess. What is between them, He says:
But hold a just middle between these
Meaning: they do not lean toward excess nor toward stinginess. Rather, they spend between this and that according to what their needs require. Is it because they are poor or because they are moderate? The second, without doubt. Even if they were the richest of the rich, they would not be able to excess. If we look at the condition of people today, we find that they are between two extremes: either an excesser who brings a lot of food, a lot of clothing, a lot of bedding, a lot of cars, and in everything he spends he excesses; or a stingy person who does not fulfill the obligatory for his family, but rather is stingy with them. There is a third category, but it is few, whose spending is between this and that. Excess has many examples, among them: a young man in the prime of his life wants to buy a car. A new car was offered to him for forty thousand, excellent, which would take him to Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and others. And another car was offered to him for eighty thousand riyals. And he is a man of little means, so he may not be able to get this car except by a loan or by installments exceeding its current value. You find some young men choose what? The one for eighty thousand. And he is a man of little means. Subhan Allah! So the debt remains upon him, and when the debt comes due and he does not pay it, the creditor does not have mercy on him. What does he do? He increases it upon him. He increases it upon him, or else prison. This poor man does not want prison, without doubt. He goes to borrow from another person to pay the first. And when the second debt comes due, yes, and he has nothing, he asks a third creditor. And so he becomes like a ball in the hands of the players in the hands of the rich. This one hits it once and this one hits it once. Why, my brother? Buy according to your means for forty thousand and fulfill your need. And beware of debt. Debt is distress and grief. And whoever is afflicted with it does not become satiated. And I give you an example of the hatred of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) for debt. A woman came to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: O Messenger of Allah, I have gifted myself to you for free, wanting to be his wife. And this is specific. Marriage by gift is specific to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), as Allah the Exalted said:
and a believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet [and] if the Prophet wishes to marry her, [this is] only for you, excluding the [other] believers
[Al-Ahzab 33:50]
. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not accept her. A man from the Companions stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need of her, marry me to her. He said: The mahr. He said: The mahr is my izar (lower garment) - he does not have a rida' (upper garment), reflect! He has nothing on him but an izar. A rida' on top of what he has, nothing in it. He said: My izar. How is your izar? If you give it to her, you will remain without an izar. And if it remains with you, you will remain without a mahr. Search. The man searched and said: I did not find. He said:
Look (for something), even if it is only an iron ring
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3359Sahih (Darussalam)
. A ring for the finger of iron, so he did not find it. Did the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) say to him: Borrow from your Muslim brothers? He did not say it, even though marriage is among the necessities of life. And he did not open for him the door of borrowing. He said:
Do you have anything of the Qur'an? He said: Yes. I have so much and so much. He said: I have married you to her with what you have of the Qur'an
Meaning, teach her what you have, and that is sufficient. So the important thing is that the negligence of young people now, and other than young people, regarding debt is a mistake, a great mistake. Be moderate according to the need. Do not be among the excessers nor among the stingy. And the common people say in the proverb: "Stretch your leg according to your blanket". This is correct. For example, if a person is tall and the blanket is short and he stretches his legs, they will come out of the blanket and he will be exposed to mosquitoes and exposed to the cold. But if he tucks his legs in according to the blanket, he is safe. So the result is: that among the characteristics of the slaves of Allah is that they spend, but they
when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate
[Al-Furqan 25:67]
.
I ask Allah the Exalted to make me and you among the slaves of Allah. And we will speak, if Allah wills, about the remaining verses in the upcoming meetings. May Allah extend to us and to you His help, and make us among those who listen to the statement and then follow the best of it. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
And I give glad tidings to my brothers who came from places other than this neighborhood. I give them glad tidings with what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah would make that path easy, leading to Paradise for him
Sahih Muslim 2699a
. O Allah, make us among these, for You are capable of all things. How? How? Good.
He says: Guiding people to move forward to the crowd, for the crowd of people is in the back. Moving forward, moving forward, the first quarter, there is no limit in this. The second quarter, if you move forward, yes. Good.

The questioner : May Allah reward our father with the best reward and benefit us with his knowledge.
