Fatwa number ( 2331 ):
Q1: Regarding Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrating from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6227 Is this hadith authentic?
A1: The text of the hadith is:Sahih al-Bukhari 6227 It was narrated by the Imam Ahmad and al-Bukhari and Muslim. It is an authentic hadith, and there is nothing strange about its text, for it has two meanings:
The first: that Allah did not create Adam small and short like the children of his descendants, then he grew and became tall until he reached sixty cubits; rather, He made him tall on the day He created him, in his final form, with a height of sixty cubits. And the second: that the pronoun in His saying: refers to Allah, as evidenced by what came in another authentic narration: This is clear from the context, and likening Allah to His creation is not implied by this, for Allah named Himself with names by which He named His creation and described Himself with attributes by which He described His creation, and likening is not implied by that, nor by the image, and it is not implied by its attribution to Allah that He is likened to His creation; because sharing in the name and the general meaning does not imply likening in what pertains to each of them, as Allah the Exalted said: [Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
Q1: Regarding Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrating from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Allah created Adam in His picture, sixty cubits (about 30 meters) in height.
خلق الله آدم على صورته ستون ذراعًاA1: The text of the hadith is:
Allah created Adam in His picture, sixty cubits (about 30 meters) in height. When He created him, He said (to him), "Go and greet that group of angels sitting there, and listen what they will say in reply to you, for that will be your greeting and the greeting of your offspring." Adam (went and) said, 'As-Salamu alaikum (Peace be upon you).' They replied, 'AsSalamu-'Alaika wa Rahmatullah (Peace and Allah's Mercy be on you) So they increased 'Wa Rahmatullah' The Prophet (ﷺ) added 'So whoever will enter Paradise, will be of the shape and picture of Adam Since then the creation of Adam's (offspring) (i.e. stature of human beings is being diminished continuously) to the present time."
The first: that Allah did not create Adam small and short like the children of his descendants, then he grew and became tall until he reached sixty cubits; rather, He made him tall on the day He created him, in his final form, with a height of sixty cubits. And the second: that the pronoun in His saying:
in His form
على صورتهin the image of the Most Merciful
على صورة الرحمنThere is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ
