What is the meaning of the hadith, "Allah created Adam in His image"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the meaning of the hadith
Allah created Adam in His picture خلق الله آدم على صورته
Sahih al-Bukhari 6227
...?

The Shaykh : Yes, the scholars have differed on this. Some said that the image of al-Rahman is valid, while others denied this, such as Ibn Khuzaymah in his *Sahih* in the book of Tawhid. Others said that the wording is authentic and it explains the pronoun in his saying,
created Adam in His own image خلق آدم على صورته
Sahih Muslim 2612e
, because the creation of Adam in His image is established in the two Sahihs.
But what is the way out? This is explained in one of two ways: either the meaning is that it is in the image of al-Rahman, and it does not follow from it being in His image that it is similar to Him, nor does it follow from it being in His image that it is similar to Him. So this is the first group to enter Paradise in the image of the moon on the night of the full moon, and it does not follow that it is like it; so the image is in a general sense. Or it is said that it is in the image of al-Rahman, meaning this is from the category of attributing the created to its Creator, i.e., in the image that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, chose and willed. So do not strike the face and make ugly this image that Allah cared for, or make it ugly.
