The first question of Fatwa No. ( 2450 ):
Q1: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken in the night journey to al-Masjid al-Aqsa and then ascended with him to the seven heavens, to the Lote Tree, and to the end of that, as mentioned in [Tafsir al-Sa'udi on al-Jalalayn], the question is: Did the noble Messenger see his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, with his own eyes during this ascension, or not?
A1: The belief of the people of the Sunnah and the community , derived from the sacred texts, is that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), when he was taken in the night journey and ascended, did not see his Lord with his eyes. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when asked about it:
I saw a light
رأيت نورًاLight, how can I see it?
نور أنى أراهAnd know that none of you will see his Lord until he dies
واعلموا أنه لن يرى منكم أحد ربه حتى يموت
